Two Year Anniversary!!

Well, well, well…How quickly does time fly! Can’t believe it’s already been two years since I started blogging here regularly!

I still remember that first post. Honestly, at the time, I didn’t know, or even think, that I would be doing this for the next two years of my life. All I wanted to do was to share a pleasant experience with anyone who’d listen. It felt good to share that pleasant experience, and that’s what I’ve been trying to do ever since.

This journey over the last couple of years has been quite interesting. I’ve come across some new thoughts through others’ writings, remembered and re-evaluated some old ones of my own, and reached out to people I never would’ve come across otherwise. There’s something alluring, romantic even, about discovering words written years and years ago, on blogs that are no longer active, by authors who got off this journey at some point, for some reason; about finding that one post with zero “likes”, but that speaks to you as if it was written especially for you, by someone on the other side of the world, at the other end of their life’s journey! The power and connect of words is truly amazing! Reminds me of stones skipping on water. 🙂

This journey has also helped me re-discover my fondness for poetry, and although I don’t spend as much time writing and reading poems as I would like, I’m still more involved than I’ve ever been before. Hopefully, I’ll find the motivation and resolve to get through all those unfinished drafts, and would one day be able to share those with you.

Like any other undertaking, there have been challenges on this journey – lack of motivation, time constraints, other priorities, procrastination, etc. but somehow things fell into place, and I have managed to post regularly, more or less.

For anyone interested: the secret was to find my rhythm – what works best for me for the long run. First aspect of that has to do with the frequency – I could’ve posted once every week, or 3-4 times a month, but that wouldn’t have been sustainable for me. So I’ve tried to keep it simple – just two posts a month. On rare occasions, that may move up or down by one, but mostly it’s just the two posts. The second aspect is variety – I try to mix things up. Sometimes, it’s the long winded musings, sometimes quotes, and sometimes poems. And if nothing else, then just my thoughts on whatever catches my fancy and connects with me at some level.

A strategy based on these two principles has worked for me not only for writing, but also for maintaining a healthier lifestyle (although I’m still far from where I’d like to be, I think it would’ve been a lot worse if I hadn’t been following this). So, I’d strongly recommend giving them a thought if you want to develop any any long-term habits.

Let me also take this opportunity to once again lay out the motivation behind this blog. I understand that the posts can sometimes feel preachy and naive, but I think that’s primarily down to my writing skills, or lack thereof. But the goal with this blog was not to tell anyone how to think, or what to do, but to put forth questions that I thought we should be asking ourselves – questions that I think are important, based on my own life experiences.

When it comes to questions and how to answer them, for any given question, I think we have the following possibilities:

  • Those who understand the question, the answer, and how to incorporate that into their life.
  • Those who know the question, and the answer, but don’t know how to put those two things together – how to benefit from the knowledge of that answer.
  • Those who know the question, but not the answer.
  • Those who are not even aware of the question in the first place.

My idea was to target that last category, based on situations that I’ve come across in my own life. Of course, there may be many problems or questions, I, myself, may not be aware of, but I thought I should at least highlight the issues that I can, in case they trigger something in someone, who may not have thought about those specific things.

As for solutions, I believe that everyone has to find their own. I can only share my own experiences of the questions I’ve identified and faced, of my own approach to answering them, but they are just my personal opinions. You can read about them, think about them, and then discard them, or you can adapt them to your own case – it’s totally up to you.

Before I wrap up, one last thing: Although I hope I’ll continue writing even if no one ever reads anything that I write, as this writing is for myself as much as for anyone else, the journey is always better with some company. And so, whether you’ve been a follower since the beginning, or a recent one, or even just a casual passer-by, I do want to thank you for your time and feedback.

Even though there are some hits, and some misses, it’s a relief to know that all that effort, driven by that motivation stated earlier, is not a total waste, and that someone, somewhere did find at least some value in it after all. That makes all of this worthwhile.

Thank you, once again, for being here! Here’s to whatever comes next…

  1. I will always read what you write. No worries about that. Congrats on your two years. I started at the beginning of the year so hopefully, with some luck, I can match your two years. We learn a lot, don’t we. Some of the things we learn we never saw coming.

You always have something good to read. Don’t stop!!!! 🙂

    • Thank you Bryan for your words of encouragement! You are probably my only regular reader! 🙂 So, they do mean a lot to me!

And yes, there’s been much learning on this road, yet much still remains to be learnt, which is exciting. I sincerely hope you do keep writing and stick with it. Wish you the best!! 🙂
